About Us

My name is Alan Alters and I have been a wine enthusiast for a long time. I grew up in New York City, at a time when you could drink wine regardless of your age as long as you had at least one facial hair. I am from a primarily Italian neighborhood, back when Bolla ruled the roost on imported wines. I made my “wine bones” with Bolla Soave, Bolla Bardolino and Bolla Valpolicella, and powerful red wines are still among my favorites!

I worked in the technology field for over 40 years, initially as a programmer, then as a manager, project manager and, eventually, as a senior executive. While I liked technology, for me the work was always more about the people. I enjoy building teams and creating relationships that outlasted the current job or project.  In January 2020, I left the technology field to start a business working in the wine industry.   

I created Altrotta’s Amphora to pursue this passion of sharing my wine knowledge with like-minded enthusiasts and to build a community of folks that like wine, but may not know why. I want to leverage my relationships to bring great wines and wine-related items to people who share this passion but may not be experts in the field. Wines are amazing beverages and are meant to be shared and enjoyed!
